Jane of all trades, mistress of fun

Life is story. I've always tried to use words to draw people in. To entertain them. And make them want to stay.

I was born with a congenital hip defect that took years to correct. While in a series of body casts unable to get around, Tracey kept herself well amused with babbles, notes, and eventually, WORDS. Ah, the power of communication to get what you want!

Fast forward to a stay-at-home mom who'd jumped off the corporate ladder to become a freelance copywriter but mostly focus on her family. In this era, I fell madly in love with an historical story: one of pirates, literature, and legend! I have 100k+ words of that novel I hope to finish that elusive someday.

Meanwhile, I discovered the power of thinking small—and having a deadline. One by one, my short & sweet stage comedies were written and produced at one-act theatrical festivals. Together they're Quickies by Tracey Jane. And I now have dozens of those fun, flirty short plays about love and longing.

In 2022 I was challenged to adapt my little stories to the big screen. Suddenly, I was a filmmaker! What a ride, leading a creative cast and crew to make movies. While theatre is transient and beautiful like life, films capture moving moments that tell a story magically and indelibly for all time. And so it is that I find myself in a passionate, inescapable love triangle with stage and screen.

And then there's music. It's a higher-level language that speaks directly to the soul. That's why I'm so excited to bring A Halloween Carol to full production life. I wrote the first song on a rented piano when I was 21. Three decades later, the dozen plus songs chronicle my life as much as that of the show's protagonist, Carol Cratchit. The theme of both our stories is about facing fears.

It's fun, family-friendly, and yes, a reimagined retelling of Dickens' beloved tale. But it's also about confronting our deepest hurts and dreads, even our own mortality, to become our truest, most powerful selves. It's a life-loving message I hope will resonate with many future listeners.
